What is a Chaplain?

Chaplains serve both God and country by bringing their unique gifts with which they are endowed by God, to the soldiers and veterans of our nation in the broad, challenging, diverse, and ever changing environment.

Chaplains are our nation's soldiers who minister to our nation's sons and daughters, and their families. Active duty chaplains in the field must endure the hardship, separation, and deprivations of those whom they serve. Like any minister, they must provide dynamic and genuine ministry with a shepherd's heart.

Whether leading worship, visiting a hospital or even answering a phone call, chaplains are always at the frontline of our soldiers' and veterans' lives.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars is the oldest veterans service organization in the United States.  The purpose of this corporation shall be fraternal, patriotic, historical, and educational; To  preserve and strengthen comradeship among its members; to assist worthy comrades; to perpetuate the memory and history of our dead, and to assist their widows and orphans; to maintain true allegiance to the Government of the United States of America, and fidelity to its Constitution and by-laws;  to foster true patriotism; to maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom; and to preserve and defend the United States from all her enemies, whomsoever.
